A $70 Wagyu Omakase Is Hiding on Artesia Boulevard |
This intimate Japanese barbecue counter turns premium wagyu into a guided tasting experience. |

This may be one of Torrance’s more interesting splurge dinners — especially if you love Japanese beef.
Wagyu Butcher Japanese BBQ at 2104 Artesia Boulevard specializes in yakiniku, the Japanese style of grilling meat, but its signature experience is the Butcher’s Omakase.
The tasting menu is currently listed at $70 per person and takes diners through a progression of premium wagyu cuts with different preparations and sauces.
Part of the appeal is the presentation.
Rather than simply delivering a plate of meat, the restaurant incorporates tableside butchery and counter grilling, turning dinner into something closer to a guided tasting. The intimate room has roughly 20 counter seats, and the omakase experience runs about 110 minutes.
There is also an optional $10 A5 wagyu sushi upgrade for diners who want to take the experience another step.
Reservations are strongly recommended because seating is limited, and Discover Torrance specifically notes that the omakase seatings can fill quickly.
At $70, it certainly isn’t an everyday dinner.
But compared with some of Torrance’s ultra-premium Japanese tasting menus, it offers a way to experience high-end wagyu and omakase-style service at a comparatively approachable price.
