Torrance Is Already Rethinking the 2027 Armed Forces Day Celebration |
City leaders are reviewing next year’s format after another round of debate over how the long-running tradition should evolve. |

The 2026 Armed Forces Day celebration may be over, but City Hall is already looking ahead to 2027.
At its September 15 meeting, the Torrance City Council considered recommendations from the Armed Forces Day Special Standing Committee involving format and schedule adjustments for the 2027 celebration and whether staff should move forward with event planning.
The discussion comes after a turbulent planning cycle for the 2026 event.
Late last year, the Council initially approved moving the celebration to Torrance Municipal Airport, then reversed that decision after community feedback and restored the traditional Torrance Boulevard parade route.
That history makes the 2027 planning process worth watching.
The central question is not whether Torrance will continue honoring the military. The city has made clear that Armed Forces Day remains a major civic tradition.
The question is how the celebration should be organized in a way that preserves that tradition while managing cost, logistics, safety and public participation.
Residents who care about the parade’s future may want to follow the planning process early rather than waiting until next spring.
