South High Bomb Threat Ends Safely |
Police continue investigating after campus lockdown and evacuations |

A frightening afternoon at South High School ended without anyone being hurt after Torrance police responded to a reported bomb threat on Wednesday, September 23.
Police say the department’s communications center received a call shortly after 11:30 a.m. claiming that multiple bombs were on the South High campus. The caller then disconnected.
School administrators placed South High on lockdown while officers secured the area. Several nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, Richardson Middle School also took precautionary measures, and explosive-detection K-9 teams were brought in to help search the campus.
The Torrance Police Department later reported that its preliminary assessment and subsequent response found nothing suspicious. Students were released safely, evacuated residents were allowed to return home, and the Torrance Alert covering the area near Pacific Coast Highway and Calle Mayor was cancelled.
The incident is not completely closed, however. Police say detectives are continuing to investigate who was responsible for making the false bomb threat and are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
For Torrance families, the most important news is that the emergency ended safely — but the investigation continues.
