Torrance’s New Mayor Delivers Her First State of the City Address |
Sharon Kalani’s sold-out address puts the new administration’s direction in focus |

Torrance’s new mayor has now delivered her first State of the City address.
Mayor Sharon Kalani spoke Friday, September 25, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance–South Bay during the annual event organized with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce.
The event sold out in advance.
The City described this year’s address as a look at upcoming priorities, city projects and the future direction of Torrance under the new administration.
That gives the address added significance this year.
Kalani took office after defeating incumbent Mayor George Chen in the June municipal election, receiving 51.36% of the vote compared with Chen’s 48.64%, according to certified Los Angeles County election results.
The State of the City traditionally functions as a broad annual snapshot of Torrance — covering issues such as city finances, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, transportation and major projects.
But because this was Kalani’s first address as mayor, it also offered businesses and residents one of their first opportunities to hear how the new administration intends to frame its priorities.
One caution for readers: the City has not yet posted an indexed full transcript or detailed official recap of the 2026 speech that I could independently verify. For that reason, we are not attributing specific policy announcements to the address until the City publishes the speech or recording.
Once that becomes available, there may be enough new information for a deeper City Hall Watch follow-up.
