Young Professionals Are Helping Shape Care at Torrance Memorial |
YPPA turns networking into support for patients, families and hospital programs |

Networking events usually end with business cards.
At Torrance Memorial, one group has found a way to make them end with better patient care.
The Young Physicians & Professionals Alliance, better known as YPPA, brings together physicians and other South Bay professionals who want to build professional relationships while also supporting Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
Over the years, the group has helped fund a surprisingly broad list of projects.
According to the Torrance Memorial Foundation, YPPA has contributed more than $30,000 toward renovations in the maternity, neonatal intensive care and pediatric departments.
The group has also supported Nintendo game stations for pediatric patients, NICU family-room furniture, emergency evacuation backpacks for newborns, gift cards, chargers and other patient-focused items.
YPPA is also a sponsor of the DAISY Award, which recognizes nurses for compassionate and exceptional care.
The volunteer-led group held its 2026 Casino Night on September 25 as part of its ongoing fundraising and community-building efforts.
What makes YPPA interesting is the combination.
Members are not simply writing checks. They are building a network of younger professionals around the idea that career success and community involvement do not have to be separate things.
For Torrance Memorial patients and families, the results show up in practical ways — a more comfortable room, equipment for children, supplies for families or resources that otherwise might not exist.
