Prime Rib, Red Booths and Karaoke: The San Franciscan Still Does It Its Way |
Torrance steakhouse has been serving old-school dinners since 1963 |

There are restaurants that feel new every six months.
And then there is The San Franciscan.
The Torrance steakhouse has been operating since 1963, and much of the appeal is that it still feels like it belongs to another era.
Located at 2520 Sepulveda Boulevard, the restaurant is known for aged, slow-roasted prime rib, steaks, seafood and hearty classic sides served in a dining room lined with brick walls and red leather booths.
The menu includes New York strip, filet mignon, rib eye, bone-in ribeye, pork chops, seafood, Australian lobster tail and several surf-and-turf combinations.
But food is only part of the experience.
The restaurant currently hosts karaoke every Tuesday and Saturday night, with live bands on Fridays.
That gives The San Franciscan a personality that is increasingly difficult to manufacture.
It is not trying to look retro.
It actually is.
The Los Angeles Times recently included the restaurant in its Torrance city guide, describing it as a classic steakhouse that has remained true to its roots while continuing to draw locals for prime rib and live entertainment.
For longtime Torrance residents, it may already be familiar.
For newer residents, The San Franciscan is a chance to experience a piece of the city that has survived largely intact through decades of changing dining trends.
And on karaoke night, you might get dinner and a show whether you planned on one or not.
