If your idea of a great dessert is rich without being overwhelmingly sweet, Kansha Creamery deserves a look.

The small, sibling-owned ice cream shop at 18515 S. Western Avenue has built a following around a deliberately limited rotating menu. Kansha Creamery

Rather than offering dozens of elaborate combinations, Kansha focuses on a handful of flavors that highlight individual ingredients.

The Infatuation recently included Kansha in its updated roundup of the best ice cream in Los Angeles, calling attention to flavors such as black sesame, honeycomb, and milk ice cream with caramel and fresh-baked oatmeal cookies. Seasonal fruit flavors are also worth watching for, with some ingredients sourced from growers at the Torrance Farmers’ Market.

The name “Kansha” comes from the Japanese word for gratitude, which fits the shop’s restrained approach. The emphasis is less on building the biggest sundae possible and more on making a few flavors carefully.

That makes it a nice contrast to the oversized-cookie and loaded-dessert trend.

Kansha’s hours are also part of its personality. The shop currently operates only a limited number of days each week, so checking hours before heading over is important. Kansha Creamery

For anyone who prefers dessert that tastes thoughtful rather than simply sugary, this may be one of Torrance’s better sweet stops.
