Torrance Chipmaker Targets the Power Demands of AI |
Navitas and Microchip unveil technology designed for next-generation 800-volt data centers. |

Another Torrance technology company is positioning itself inside one of the biggest infrastructure shifts being driven by artificial intelligence.
Navitas Semiconductor and Microchip Technology announced October 5 that they have collaborated on a new 800V DC-to-6V DC reference design for next-generation AI data-center racks.
As increasingly powerful GPU clusters consume more electricity, the data-center industry is moving toward higher-voltage power distribution to reduce energy losses and increase the amount of computing power that can be packed into a rack.
The new platform combines Microchip’s digital power-control and security technology with Navitas’ GaNFast gallium-nitride power devices.
The companies say the design is aligned with the Open Compute Project’s emerging 800-volt DC standard and is intended to give equipment developers a practical starting point for building highly efficient power systems.
For Torrance, the announcement is another reminder that some of the technology helping power the AI boom is being developed much closer to home than many residents may realize.
