Torrance Adult School Is Looking for Neighbors Willing to Help Students Succeed |
Volunteers can assist adults learning English, earning diplomas and preparing for new careers. |

Torrance Adult School is looking for something that cannot be purchased with a school budget: people willing to give their time.
The school is inviting residents to volunteer across several programs serving adult learners in Torrance.
Opportunities include helping students in the classroom as well as supporting English as a Second Language, High School Diploma and GED, Career Technical Education and Community Education programs. Volunteers may also help with open enrollment, school events and graduation.
Teaching experience is not listed as a requirement.
Volunteers must be at least 18 and complete Torrance Unified's volunteer-approval process, including required documentation and training.
Adult education can have an unusually broad ripple effect.
Helping someone improve their English may make it easier for that person to communicate at work or participate in their child's school. Helping someone earn a diploma or GED can open a path toward employment or additional education.
Those are changes that can affect an entire family.
Torrance Adult School operates at three locations in the city and serves residents across several educational programs.
For residents who have knowledge, patience and a few hours to share, this is a Local Love opportunity where the return can be much larger than the time invested.
