Jang Su Jang Is Serving the Korean Comfort Food Torrance Does So Well |
Tofu soup, bulgogi, bossam and sizzling stone bowls make this Sepulveda restaurant worth a closer look. |

Sometimes the hardest part about eating at a good Korean restaurant is deciding what kind of meal you want.
Soup?
Barbecue?
A sizzling rice bowl?
Something to share?
At Jang Su Jang, the answer can easily be all of the above.
Located at 2814 Sepulveda Boulevard, the Torrance restaurant serves a broad menu of traditional Korean dishes rather than focusing on only Korean barbecue. Eater LA
One of the biggest draws is soondubu, the bubbling soft-tofu stew that arrives hot enough to keep cooking at the table. The menu offers versions with seafood, beef, clams, mushrooms, kimchi, pork and other combinations.
Then there is old-style bulgogi, seafood pancake, stone-pot bibimbap, bossam, LA galbi and galbi jjim—slow-braised short ribs that fall squarely into the comfort-food category.
Eater LA specifically highlights the fried fish, sundubu jjigae, old-style bulgogi and stone-pot bibimbap, noting that the restaurant can draw weekend lines. Eater LA
That broad menu makes Jang Su Jang particularly useful for groups.
Someone who wants a steaming bowl of soup can sit next to someone ordering barbecue, noodles or a large shareable dish without anyone having to compromise.
And, of course, the meal comes with banchan—the assortment of small side dishes that turns a Korean dinner into much more than a single entrée.
Torrance already has one of Southern California's deepest Korean dining scenes.
Jang Su Jang is another good reminder of just how fortunate local diners are.
