Bacteria Warning Remains in Effect at Torrance Beach |
Swimmers and surfers should avoid the water just north of the RAT lifeguard tower at Malaga Cove. |

A familiar warning is unfortunately still relevant this week.
Los Angeles County Public Health reported Monday, October 5, that bacteria levels at Torrance Beach at Malaga Cove remain above state health standards.
The affected area is 100 yards up and down the coast from the RAT lifeguard tower, just north of the tower.
County health officials are advising beachgoers to avoid swimming, surfing and playing in the water within the warning area because elevated bacteria can increase the risk of illness.
The warning is based on recent water samples, so conditions can change as new testing results become available.
That makes this an alert worth checking before heading into the ocean rather than relying on information from earlier in the week.
Residents can monitor current beach conditions through the County's beach-water website or call the 24-hour beach hotline at 800-525-5662.
Alert Bottom Line
The beach itself is not closed.
But if you're planning to swim or surf near Malaga Cove, avoid the water around the RAT tower until Public Health clears the warning.
