Hear Sirens Wednesday? This One Is Only a Test |
Torrance’s refinery emergency-warning sirens will sound Wednesday morning during their regular monthly test. |

If you hear sirens in Torrance Wednesday morning, don't panic.
The City will conduct its regular Refinery Community Alert Siren test on Wednesday, October 7, at approximately 11:30 a.m.
This is different from the TorranceNOW citywide siren test residents heard last week.
Wednesday's test involves the warning system associated with refinery emergencies.
The City says the test begins with one minute of “all-clear” chimes, followed by a two-minute siren tone, and ends with another round of chimes.
The entire test should take no more than about five minutes.
Because the siren tone travels farther than the chimes, some residents may hear only part of the test depending on where they live.
The City also uses the monthly exercise as a reminder of what residents should do during an actual refinery emergency.
The message is:
Shelter. Shut. Listen.
That means go indoors, close windows, doors and vents, and listen for official instructions.
Alert Bottom Line
Wednesday at approximately 11:30 a.m. = test.
If you hear the refinery warning sirens outside the scheduled testing period, treat them seriously and follow emergency instructions.
