Torrance-Based Pelican Expands Defense Technology Manufacturing as Demand Surges |
The local company's Pelican-Hardigg division has delivered more than one million protective cases for military drone systems in two years. |

Torrance-based Pelican Products announced October 12 that its Pelican-Hardigg Technical Solutions division is expanding its global manufacturing and custom-engineering capabilities to support growing demand for advanced military equipment protection.
The announcement comes as defense organizations increasingly rely on unmanned aerial systems, sophisticated electronics, and specialized field equipment that must withstand extreme conditions during transportation and deployment.
More Than One Million Drone Cases Delivered
According to the company, Pelican-Hardigg has delivered more than one million protective cases for military unmanned aerial systems over the past two years.
These specialized cases help protect sensitive equipment from physical damage, environmental exposure, and the challenges associated with demanding military operations.
Unlike traditional storage containers, custom-engineered protective systems may incorporate specialized internal structures, equipment-specific mounting arrangements, and materials designed for difficult operating environments.
Showcasing New Defense Technology
Pelican is highlighting these capabilities at AUSA 2026, the Association of the United States Army's annual defense exhibition in Washington, D.C.
Among the technologies being demonstrated is an integrated Bullfrog M2 drone-defense system developed by Allen Control Systems, housed in a purpose-built Pelican-Hardigg deployment case featuring a reinforced metal interior.
The demonstration illustrates how protective equipment is becoming an increasingly specialized component of modern defense systems.
Why This Matters to Torrance
Pelican Products is a recognizable part of Torrance's business community, and its expansion announcement highlights the city's connection to national and international defense manufacturing.
Torrance already has a substantial aerospace, engineering, and advanced-technology presence. Companies developing specialized systems and supporting equipment contribute to that broader industrial ecosystem.
Although Pelican announced an expansion of its global capabilities, the company did not specify how many additional jobs or manufacturing operations would be located in Torrance.
For the local economy, the announcement is another example of how Torrance-based businesses participate in technology markets extending far beyond Southern California.
