Torrance-area motorists traveling at night should prepare for another week of freeway construction affecting State Route 91 and several connections to Interstate 110.

Caltrans has scheduled overnight lane, ramp, and connector closures beginning Tuesday, October 13, and continuing through Saturday morning, October 17.

The work is part of an ongoing $34 million sign rehabilitation project covering approximately 14.7 miles of SR-91 between Gardena and Cerritos.

Which Freeway Connections Are Affected?

Several connectors near the SR-91/I-110 interchange are scheduled for overnight restrictions.

For the main weekday work period, Caltrans lists the following potential closures:

  • Eastbound SR-91 to southbound I-110: 8 p.m.–6 a.m.
  • Westbound SR-91 to northbound I-110: 9 p.m.–5 a.m.
  • Westbound SR-91 to southbound I-110: 10 p.m.–5 a.m.
  • Westbound SR-91 to southbound I-110/I-405: 11 p.m.–4 a.m.
  • Northbound I-110 to westbound SR-91: 7 p.m.–6 a.m.
  • Southbound I-110 to westbound SR-91: 7 p.m.–6 a.m.

Not every connector will necessarily close simultaneously. Caltrans says closures may be adjusted as crews move between work locations.

SR-91 Lane Reductions

Additional overnight restrictions are scheduled along both directions of SR-91.

Eastbound and westbound sections may be reduced to two lanes during construction.

Motorists may also encounter closures at selected ramps, including locations around Long Beach Boulevard, Santa Fe Avenue, Avalon Boulevard, and other interchanges along the project corridor.

Friday night's work extends into Saturday morning, with some closures scheduled to remain in place later than the weekday restrictions.

Why Is Caltrans Doing This Work?

The project includes replacement and rehabilitation of roadway signs, lighting improvements, guardrail work, and maintenance access enhancements.

Crews are also performing related curb, gutter, sidewalk, and roadway work.

The improvements are intended to modernize freeway infrastructure and improve long-term road safety.

What Should Drivers Do?

Motorists should check the latest conditions before leaving, particularly when traveling after 7 p.m.

Caltrans warns that construction schedules may change because of weather or operational conditions.

Posted detour signs will direct drivers around affected ramps and connectors.

For Torrance residents commuting through Gardena or connecting to I-110, allowing additional travel time is the safest approach.
