Celebrating the Creative Side of Torrance

Torrance is recognizing eight artists and organizations whose work contributes to the city's cultural identity.

The Torrance Cultural Arts Commission announced the recipients of the 2026 Excellence in Arts Awards on September 29. The 48th annual recognition ceremony was scheduled for October 11 at the Toyota Meeting Hall.

Meet This Year's Honorees

This year's award recipients are:

  • Dance: Sabrina Manzi
  • Drama and Theatre Arts: Bradley Allen Lock
  • Emerging Artist: Noel Takaya
  • Katy Geissert Award: Regina Klenjoski
  • Literary Arts: Peter Lefevre
  • Music: Andy Hill and Renee Safier
  • Arts Education: North Torrance Youth Musicians Ensemble
  • Visual Arts and Design: Allison Zahorik

The awards recognize contributions across artistic disciplines, from individual creative achievement to programs helping young people discover and develop their talents.

A Young Musician Earns Recognition

Emerging Artist recipient Noel Takaya is an accomplished oboist who earned a bachelor's degree in music from California State University, Long Beach, and is pursuing graduate studies at USC.

Her musical experience includes orchestral performances and specialized training programs.

Her recognition demonstrates the importance of encouraging young artists as they develop professional careers.

Honoring a Lasting Contribution

The Katy Geissert Award recognizes individuals whose work has made a lasting impact on Torrance's arts community.

This year's recipient, Regina Klenjoski, is a choreographer, performer, educator, and longtime arts advocate.

Her contributions illustrate how a career in the arts can influence a community through both creative expression and education.

Why These Awards Matter

Arts organizations, educators, and performers contribute to a community in ways that aren't always reflected in economic statistics or development announcements.

They help preserve cultural traditions, introduce young people to creative opportunities, and bring residents together through performances, exhibitions, and educational programs.

Torrance's Excellence in Arts Awards have celebrated those contributions since 1977.

For this year's recipients, the recognition acknowledges the time, talent, and dedication they have invested in the community.
