Another Torrance technology company is becoming part of the push to manufacture more advanced semiconductors in the United States.

Navitas Semiconductor announced that the first shipments of its fifth-generation GaNFast gallium-nitride power technology manufactured domestically through its partnership with GlobalFoundries are scheduled to begin in September. GlobalFoundries is producing the technology on a 200-millimeter GaN-on-silicon manufacturing platform in Burlington, Vermont.

The chips are designed for applications where efficient power conversion matters, including artificial-intelligence infrastructure, high-performance computing, industrial electrification and critical national-security systems. The companies established their long-term manufacturing partnership in November 2025.

For Torrance, this is another reminder of a part of the local economy that is easy to overlook. Alongside the city’s better-known aerospace companies is a growing collection of businesses working on technologies that could become increasingly important to AI, energy and advanced manufacturing.
