Tamistea Puts a Filipino Twist on Coffee Time |
Ube, sweet corn, matcha and homemade pastries make this Torrance café anything but ordinary |

If your normal coffee order has become a little too predictable, Torrance has a café that may fix that.
Tamistea at 3535 Torrance Boulevard is a Filipino-inspired bakery café built around a combination of coffee, tea, baked goods and flavors that don’t appear on every neighborhood coffee-shop menu. The women-owned business describes itself as rooted in Filipino-American flavors, faith, community and house-made treats.
One of the signatures is Mais Con Ube, combining the earthy sweetness of purple yam with sweet-corn flavors. Other drinks and rotating creations have leaned into ingredients such as matcha, pandan, coconut and mango. The shop’s baked side is equally important, with cookies, muffins, croissants and other pastries sharing the spotlight with the drinks.
Even the name tells part of the story: “tamis” means sweet in Filipino. The café grew out of founder Tianna Gonzales’ baking business before becoming a brick-and-mortar Torrance shop.
The result feels different from a chain coffee stop. It is small, colorful and personal, with Filipino flavors worked into familiar café territory rather than simply placed beside it.
That means you can stop for a latte—and end up trying ube, sweet corn and a giant cookie before you leave.
